The city of Porterville offers an ideal base camp from which to discover the wonderful roads of the Southern Sierras. You’ll have the freedom to choose your own routes and set your own pace. We have a few rules of riding etiquette and some suggested routes for those of you unfamiliar with the myriad of great roads at our doorstep. Maps of the area will be provided and we encourage you to form informal riding groups with other riders of similar style and skill levels.
We’ve set up a Sierra Rally bulletin board and listed some pace guidelines to aid you in forming ride groups. The Bulletin Board is a place to post ride plans, volunteer as a ride leader or find a group to join up with. Consult the pace guidelines to get a better idea of your riding style and preferences. We suggest that you limit the size of your group to under a dozen or so to optimize your riding experience. Most rides that start by 9 am are back to the hotel by 3 pm. That generally leaves plenty of time to mingle and socialize by the pool before dinner.
Be sure to read the section on ride etiquette. Your safety and the safety of those around you are YOUR responsibility. With such a diverse gathering, it is important that everyone understands what is expected of him or her.
During the rally, you’ll be able to meet with old friends and make new ones. You are free to ride as little or as much as you like. Sometimes, it’s nice to simply relax and lounge by the pool. You could catch a movie in town. Hike in one of the national parks. Spend an afternoon exploring the area - Visalia is said to have a number of wonderful little antique shops. You could wash your bike. Or take a nap. How you choose to spend your time is entirely up to you.
Just be back in time if you wish to join us for dinner! .
